Annual report 2009
Financial resources
Library System is an Interdepartmental Center with its own budget. It includes funds for operating expenditures (in 2009 159.000) and for purchasing monographs, serials and electronic resources (in 2009 1.397.00). An amount of money is also shared every year among Branch libraries (in 2009 160,000).

To give a complete picture, we have to add to this amount of money 61.820, bound, but not payed yet. In 2009 Politecnico closed balance in advance, because of the transition to new accountancy system.
2009 expenditures for bibliographic materials are shared as in 2008; the amount of money Library System spends on current serials is the same, because print subscriptions are connected with electronic packages (Elsevier, Springer, Wiley); on the other hand, expenditures for monographs increased because a lot of new textbooks were acquired.
Concerning electronic resources, we can compare 2008 and 2009 expenditures only if we consider the year when the service was used, not the year when payment was made.

The amount of money devoted to electronic resources increased because in 2009 Library System subscribed ACM and Wiley packages and Nature.

In 2009 operating expenditures were higher than in 2008 ( 212.918 in 2009 and 144.168 in 2008), because of additional expenses for shelves and staff, co-funded by Regione Piemonte and Fondazione CRT.
Administrative Direction supported Library System undertaking expenditures for cleaning libraries and offices, replacing computers and moving. In 2009 Library System bought only a computer for the room devoted to the preservation of antiquarian books in Engineering Central Library, paying it with Regione Piemonte funds.
To have a complete picture of Politecnico's total expenditure for bibliographic materials, we have to add Branch libraries' expenditures ( 476.083) to Library System's ( 988.293). 2009 total expenditures for bibliographic materials are 1.464.376.

Unfortunately, in 2009 expenditure per user (not very high in the international landscape) became lower than formerly, because of the reduction of Branch Libraries balances.
